Water: Vital for the Future
Today more than ever, caring for the environment is a major issue that concerns us all. Sustainable development has become a key component in most sectors of the economy. In view of the impact on the future of our planet, the need to raise the general level of environmental awareness starts at school.
Water is a core issue for the future.
Since 1995, Veolia Water has continuously played a role in promoting respect for our water resources. This commitment extends to schools, with the creation of the Water Box, a teaching aid designed to raise awareness in children of the importance of water and the need for everyone to take action against pollution and waste.
An innovative approach
Water provides an opportunity to review most environmental aspects, and is therefore an ideal theme for any environmental education policy.
Water Box is a useful tool for studying a wide range of subjects related to water, including science, technology, history, geography, language, crafts and design. The hands-on approach is bound to capture the imagination and interest of the pupils through fun experiments. The box contains booklets, 3 posters illustrating hydrologic cycles and the repartition of water in the world, and supplies allowing students to experiment with water in 15 different ways.
The program revolves around the pupils' active participation in the experiments and scientific research of the basic principles of water.
Children learn that freshwater is not always available in the same quantities around the world. They can learn to appreciate the valuable resource and learn to become considerate of others and the need to save and share such a vital resource.
A Water Box is offered to local schools near areas where water services are administrated by Veolia Water. Since the creation of the first box in 1995, nearly 20,000 water boxes have been distributed around twenty countries.
The Water box is being distributed to schools surrounding Veolia Water Korea's sites in Korea.
