Environmental Awareness Campaign

International Campaigns

Since 2004, Veolia Environnement's international campaigns with children, teachers and government agencies have been remarkably successful.

Following the success of "Scrolls Around the World" (2004), "Streamers Around the World" (2005), "Sketches Around the World" (2006) and "Tales Around the World" (2007), Veolia launched a fifth international environmental awareness campaign, "Cities Around the World" in 2008.

"Cities Around the World" in 2008

2008 marked the fifth consecutive year of Veolia Environnement's commitment to its sustainable development awareness program.

The contest in 2008 was titled "Cities Around the World".
Children who took part in this program were given the opportunity to describe the city in which they lived in. Half of the world's population today live in cities with its proportion rising rapidly, and is expected to further increase over the next decades.

Children living in cities will become prime movers in this shift, and, as adults, can become important decision makers for the development of our cities. Children can become responsible citizens by becoming aware of environmental issues and finding solutions to them through the knowledge gained from schools.

The "Around the World" campaign in 2008 experienced huge success in 27 countries. Over 115,000 pupils from each continent took part in this sustainable development campaign.

Schools in the vicinity of Veolia Water Korea sites took part in the contest held in 2008. Students from Ulsan, Icheon and Incheon had the opportunity to reflect on environmental issues and share their ideas with the rest of the world. Over 505 children from 10 schools located in 3 cities participated in the contest. 2 students from Ulsan city were selected as national winners. The awareded students and their teacher were invited by Veolia Water Korea to attend the international event organized by Veolia Environnement in Paris in June, 2008.

"Tales Around the World" in 2007

In 2007, "Tales Around the World - Life Stories of People with Nature", involved 64,000 children from 26 countries. It was the fourth consecutive year for Veolia Environnement to organize its sustainable development awareness program.

For Korea, it was the first participation in the event. Four classes from Incheon city participated in the event and had the privilege to attend the international award ceremony and exhibition in Paris.
