Today, 3,700 wastewater recycling plants produce 19 million cubic meters of water. Wastewater, after having underone a customized treatment process, is recycled in arid regions (such as Namibia) for some time where it has often proved to be a most reliable resource.
Recycling has been chosen by many municipal and industrial clients in many regions of Europe, Spain, the United States, the Middle East, Africa and Australia etc., as the solution to improve the availability of resources and reduce environmental pollution. This is also the case in Korea, who is stepping forward.
Veolia Water who ranks first in hte area of wastewater recycling, has developed new "multi-barrier" treatment systems that guarantee the quality of the water produced in line with the intended use demanded by its clients.
Treated wastewater can be used to satisfy industrial needs for cooling installations, supplying boiler feed water and process water etc., and to augment fresh water catchments. It also satisfies agricultural and recreational needs for rrigation, green spaces golf courses, and more.

Irrigation
Irrigation accounts for 70% of the world's water consumption. Wastewater reuse helps save costs while protecting water resources.
Aquifer recharge
Overexploited aquifers are subject to saline ingress, especially in coastal areas. Recharging aquifer between the intake point and the coast avoid saline ingress and protects water resources.
Sydney Water contracted Veolia Water to design, build and operate (DBO contract) a state-of-the-art sewage treatment facility in the Gerringong-Gerroa area. The effluent recycling system was designed to reuse up to 80% of treated effluent. Treated effluent was stored in a 50,000m3 storage dam before being pumped to a local dairy farm for pasture irrigation. When irrigation is not possible and the storage dam is full, this high quality effluent may be discharged into local water bodies through an on-site dune system. The plant also produces Grade A biosolids that are recycled and used for land improvement.
